Recently, the Organizing Committee of theChina Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling publishedthe winners list of the 2021 “Higher Education Press Cup” China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling. Wuhan University won 5 national first prizes and 4 national second prizes. Among them, the team ofYunchang Zhu,a 2019 undergraduate majoring in Information Management and Information System in our School, won the national first prize, and she was also the only student of humanities and social sciences in the team.

This contest was held from September 9 to 12. Before the contest, Wuhan University coaching team has selectedmembersto carry out intensive training. Themembers built various teams to participated in theevaluation and selection by the Organizing Committee of Hubei Provincial Contest, and then selected teams were recommended to the national contest.Yunchang Zhu,together with Zhong Fang, student of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Wuhan University, and Yufeng Wang, student of the School of Cyber Science and Engineering, Wuhan University, chose the topic of Preparation of C4 olefins by ethanol coupling, and jointly studied the relationship between ethanol conversion rate, C4 olefin selectivity and temperature, and discussed the effects of different catalyst combinations and temperatures on ethanol conversion rate and C4 olefin selectivity. Under the same experimental conditions, higher C4 olefin yield was obtained.

China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling is organized by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, andheld once a year. It is a national-level contest with the highest level and the largest scale in mathematical modeling. There are 1,566 colleges (campuses), 45,075 teams and more than 130,000 college students from 33 regions/cities/provinces (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Province) and the United States, Malaysia and other countries participated in the contest.
